Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Thoughts & Tribulations -Adventure Review (session 2 & 3)-

The below post will contain my up-to-date review of the published adventure, as well as notes for future sessions. It includes spoilers gallore, so if you are a player, please turn back now, while you still can!









  1. Finding Floon
I had planned on having the characters do more exploration, but they played the interaction with Captain Hyustus Saget fairly deftly, so he revealed to them the information he had about the sewers and the kenku. 

Captain Hyustus Saget took a shine to Silvo, the dwarf. If he  runs into them again, he will be inclined to aid them as much as possible

After that, they investigated the area and found the sewer entrance.

     2. Xanathar Hide-out

Even with 4 players, they were so cautious that they were almost unharmed by the time they reached Floon. So the mind-flayer did not retreat immediately. 

    3. Ranaer is cautious

Ranaer trusts Gwen (due to background) and only after Floon is rescued, does he confide with the players why he thinks the guilds were after him.  (He does not remember the full name of the stone of Golorr "The stone of... something"

    4. Morningmist is innocent

She gets attached easily to Myta and Gwen, but specifically Myta as she embodies beauty and strength.
She is devoted to Selune for lifting her from the filth and abuse she experienced at the hands of goblinkin before. Humans are bad, but goblins are much worse in her mind.
She would easily die for Selune and her mission - even when she has no idea what that mission is, or what life and death are for that matter.
She loves beautiful things and wishes people trasured her like they treasure beautiful things.


Character updates

Myta - very impulsive, fearless, absolutely refuses to back down when a promise was made
Gwen - compassionate and party-support role
Ruz - strategic, ruthless when necessary, great at inflitration
Silvo - strategic, smooth-talker when necessary

Character subplots:

Gwen is looking for her childhood friend, who was last seen in the house of Rober Vanrak Moonstar. 
Ranaer uses his noble connections.

What happened with Julien

- favorite of the lord, Julien became a close confident
- one night, he forgot his lire in the lady's bedchambers and when going to fetch it, he unwittingly stumbled upon a cultist meeting. He quickly retreated but servants saw him on the way out and he feels like he has been watched ever since. Other than guests, the house staff is pretty much confined to the Villa, and he has been unable to slip out without raising suspicion.
- the lady, enamored with Julien, has recently started inoculating him into the cult, and he has been forced to go along, but Rober suspects he is biding his time, so he has been forced into "seclusion" before the initiation rite

In recent weeks, the cult has been meeting less as it's members are busy with tracking the stolen "Ring of Winter"


Character subplots:

Myta is looking for her lover, who betrayed her and possibly tried to kill her, as well as answers to what secret she found in the Feywild and who saved her.

(Possible plot: the fey have opened breaches inside the oceans, attempting to take control of the seas, for whoever controls the seas controls the Material Plane.

The breaches are kept open by powerful ancient artifacts, imbued with fey magic. Myta's merfolk lover is in alliance with the fey, as well as his merfolk clan.

Myta unknowingly is wearing a powerful magic item. It is inactive and cloaked with powerful shielding magic so it cannot be scried on or activated - until she reaches lvl 15, when it will activate. It is sentient.

Selune as goddess of the moon and a major creator God, is more attuned to the slight imbalances in power than other gods, even if these imbalances mostly exist in another plane. At the same time, she is the goddess of lost causes and has hated the abuse goblins go through.

Morningmist would normally become a priestess of Selune, except she would not be accepted as anything but a sister in Waterdeep. But she is a tool of the goddess towards redeeming the goblins - those that want to be redeemed- and stopping the fey incursion once it starts.)


Vajra Safahr Goals:

  1. Gain power and knowledge 
  2. Protect Waterdeep

At first, she would not be interested in Morningmist, as she would look at her as a tool of the gods and she has no interest in religion.

She would however be very interested in the magic item Myta carries and the magic the fey are using to merge the worlds and possibly consider exploiting the events towards finally getting rid of Laeral.

  2. Renaer talks with Gwen about his suspicions. He has heard the Black Viper hit the Moonstar Manor. The Harpers would be interested in recruiting the Black Viper
  3. Gwen starts investigating Moonstar manor

  1. The party prepares for the fight with the drow (Gwen performs, Silvo sells jewelry, Myta asks Morningmist to make jewelry for her which she sells)
  2. Silvo buys the housedog:Bobbler the Mastiff
  3. Night of Uktar 8, the drow attacks them, goes after Myta with a vengeance but Gwen almost ends up dying

  1. Tell Davil the drow is dead, ask for favor of meeting with Black Viper
  2. Gwen overhears Volo complaining about his friend Binet
  3. Gwen manages to piece together that the people coming in and out of the Moonstar Manor are Binet's men
  4. Gwen asks Volo for meeting with Binet
  5. Meeting with Black Viper, vampires in Moonstar Manor, death of Bran's partner was due to a magical accident
  6. Get a flying bird from the Black Viper and the map of the house

  3. Bran dies by getting bitten by the bruxa
  4. Silvo uses money he made to revive Bran, but he is left with memory loss
